During our November Business Meeting, and in Honor of Veteran's Day, an American Flag which had previously been donated to the Department by former member and current service member Kevin Ingerick was presented in a Flag Case to be hung for display. This Flag had accompanied his unit on a mission in which a servicemember lost his life. Along with the Flag, a framed Citation detailing the events leading up to the awarding of The Bronze Star Medal With Valor to Kevin Ingerick was read by his father, Firefighter Paul Ingerick. Kevin is once again serving in Iraq. Below is the text of that Citation. Citation to Accompany The Award of The Bronze Star Medal (With Valor) To Kevin C. Ingerick "Airman Kevin C. Ingerick distinguished himself by heroism as Gun Truck Commander and Combat Life Saver, Detachment 2632, 732d Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron, 732d Expeditionary Mission Support Group, 332d Air Expeditionary Wing, while engaged in ground operations against the enemy near Balad Air Base, Iraq on 5 December 2005. While traveling south on main supply routeTampa, his Convoy Logistics Patrol was attacked by small arms fire from anti-Iraqi Forces on both sides of the road. He immediately took charge of the situation and directed his driver to maneuver out to the enemy contact side where his turret gunner was able to engage with a 50 caliber machine gun. Airman Ingerick's decisive action allowed a clear line of sight for his gunner, who returned fire with deadly accuracy stopping the attack and killing six anti-Iraqi forces. This maneuver also gave protective cover for the remaining convoy vehicles to exit the kill zone and move onward to a safe forward rally point. Additionally, at the rally point, Airman Ingerick courageously dismounted his armored vehicle to provide immediate medical attention to a gunshot victim. He extracted the wounded driver from his burning vehicle and began applying direct pressure to entry and exit gunshot wounds. Once he assured stabilization of the victim, Airman Ingerick bandaged the wound and prepared the victim for medical airlift evacuation. His application of decisive tactics and combat life saver skills resulted in the safe onward movement of the convoy and disrupted a bold enemy plot to interdict coalition supply routes. Airman Ingerick's selfless acts during hostile actions ensured the safety and security of thirtynine coalition personnel. By his heroic actions and unselfish dedication to duty, Airman Ingerick has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force."
